What we should know about you

Questions answered by Supreet K Singh, Partner, Director & CEO
1. Imagine yourself/yourselves 5 years ago in comparison to the situation you are in today. What achievements surprise you the most?

Coming from a corporate background, this area of work was new to us. We had no formal education in the field of social work and yet our passion and keen interest to contribute to a safer world for women and girls helped us carve a space for our organization. Since 2012, we have won 40+ awards and recognition across the world and are constantly innovating on sustainable solutions towards ending GBV. The number of people who have associated with us so far, is huge and the ownership of the cause is shared passionately by everyone who gets connected to Safecity. It amazes me to see how much everyone is ready to do if only they know how. It empowers and motivates us to continue this journey.

2. What is your biggest success as an entrepreneur?

Besides the fact that we are globally the largest map that crowd sources data on sexual harassment and have collected 18,500 stories so far, one of our success is sustaining our organization despite working on a subject like sexual harassment where funding is hard to get.

3. What was a troubling time you managed to overcome?

COVID-19 has been tough but we managed to retain all staff and did not let the lockdown take the steam out of our work.

4. What is the best thing about being a member of empowering people. Network?

The diversity and inclusiveness is amazing and very motivating. The network has some amazing people doing great innovative work which is the need of the hour for an equal sustainable world. Everyone takes personal interest in every member and their work and create extremely helpful workshops. Lastly, I love the fact that this network makes me feel like I am home and this is a family I can reach out to in case I ever need help. I have made some brilliant friends here!

5. What drives you personally to keep your social business running?

I am a survivor of sexual harassment and my work is an extension of me and my belief that every girl and woman has the right to live up to her full potential without the fear of being violated. I want to breathe the air of a world where there will be no gender-based violence and that future keeps me up and running.
